7 July 2011 - 2011 Prime Minister's Literary Awards Announced - The winners of this year's Prime Minister's Literary Awards are: Fiction - Traitor by Stephen Daisley, Non-Fiction - The Hard Light of Day by Rod Moss, Young Adult Fiction - Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley, Children's Fiction - Shake a Leg by Boori Monty Pryor and Jan Ormerod.
22 June 2011 - 2011 Miles Franklin Winner Announced - Kim Scott has won the 2011 Miles Franklin Award for his novel That Deadman Dance. The judges described the novel as "supple and accessible in style, generous in spirit and outlook, a fascinating, powerful portrait of Australia's earliest days."
16 June 2011 - 2011 IMPAC Prize Winner Announced - Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann has won the 2011 International IMPAC DUBLIN Literary Award. The award is the most valuable for a novel published in English, with the winner chosen from 162 titles, nominated by 166 public libraries from 43 countries.
McCann's novel was chosen from a shortlist of 10 that included Australian authors David Malouf for Ransom, Craig Silvey for Jasper Jones, Australian Evie Wyld for After the Fire, a Still, Small Voice, as well as Brooklyn by Colm Toibín, The Vagrants by Yiyun Li, Love and Summer by William Trevor, Little Bird of Heaven by Joyce Carol Oates, Galore by Michael Crummey, and The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver.
8 June 2011 - 2011 Orange Prize Winner Announced - Serbian-American author Téa Obreht has won this year's Orange Prize for Fiction for her debut novel The Tiger's Wife. Obreht is the youngest-ever author to win the prize, which was established in 1996 to celebrate and promote fiction written by women.
Obreht's novel was selected from a shortlist of six, which included Room by Emma Donoghue, Grace Williams Says It Loud by Emma Henderson, Annabel by Kathleen Winter, Great House by Nicole Krauss, and The Memory of Love by Aminatta Forna.
The judges commented that 'Obreht's powers of observation and her understanding of the world are remarkable, [and] by skillfully spinning a series of magical tales she has managed to bring the tragedy of chronic Balkan conflict thumping into our front rooms with a bittersweet vivacity.'
26 May 2011 - 2011 Prime Minister's Literary Awards Short List Announced - The Prime Minister's Literary Awards Short List for Fiction was Traitor by Stephen Daisley, Notorious by Roberta Lowing, When Colts Ran by Roger McDonald, Glissando by David Musgrave, and That Deadman Dance by Kim Scott.
In all 20 titles were shortlisted in the Fiction, Non Fiction, Young Adult Fiction, and Children's Fiction categories. The winners will be announced at an event in the week of 4 to 8 July 2011.
16 May 2011 - 2011 NSW Premier's Literary Awards Announced - The winners of the 2011 NSW Premier's Literary Awards were announced on Monday 16 May as part of this year's Sydney Writers' Festival.
The Christina Stead Prize for Fiction was awarded to Lovesong by Alex Miller, which was also awarded the People's Choice Award, selected by residents of New South Wales.
Malcolm Fraser: The Political Memoirs by Malcolm Fraser and Margaret Simons received the Douglas Stewart Prize for Nonfiction as well as the Book of the Year Award.
The Kenneth Slessor Prize for Poetry was awarded to Jennifer Maiden for Pirate Rain, the third time Maiden has won this award.
In children's and young adult writing, the Ethel Turner Prize for Young People's Literature was awarded to Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley, and the Patricia Wrightson Prize for Children's Literature was awarded to My Australian Story: The Hunt for Ned Kelly by Sophie Masson.

13 April 2011 - 2011 IMPAC Shortlist Announced - Australian authors David Malouf, Craig Silvey and Evie Wyld have been shortlisted for the 2011 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. The International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award includes a cash prize of about AU$138,000 and is the world's most valuable literary prize for a single work. The winner of this year's award will be announced on 15 June.
12 April 2011 - CBCA Shortlists announced - The shortlists for the 2011 Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year Awards have been announced.

17 March 2011 - Miles Franklin Longlist Announced - The longlisted titles for this year's Miles Franklin Literary Award are: Rocks in the Belly by Jon Bauer, The Good Daughter by Honey Brown, The Mary Smokes Boys by Patrick Holland, The Piper's Son by Melina Marchetta, When Colts Ran by Roger McDonald, Time's Long Ruin by Stephen Orr, That Deadman Dance by Kim Scott, The Legacy by Kirsten Tranter, and Bereft by Chris Womersley.
The shortlist for this year's award will be announced on 19 April in Sydney, with the winner announced at a special event at the State Library of Victoria in Melbourne on 22 June.
15 March 2011 - 2011 Indies Award winners Announced - Last night, at their annual Conference, Australia’s independent booksellers announced The Happiest Refugee by Anh Do the winner of the Indie Book of the Year Award 2011, as their favourite Australian book from the past 12 months. The individual category winners were also announced. These were: Best Fiction - Bereft by Chris Womersley, Best Non-Fiction - The Happiest Refugee by Anh Do, Best Debut Fiction - Rocks in the Belly by Jon Bauer, and Best Children’s Book - Mirror by Jeannie Baker.
4 March 2011 - Commonwealth Writers’ Prize 2011 - The Commonwealth Writers’ Prize has announced an eclectic mix of writers from the four regions of the Commonwealth who will be heading to the final stages of the competition at Sydney Writers’ Festival in May. South East Asia and Pacific winners were: Best Book - That Deadman Dance by Kim Scott (Australia) and Best First Book - A Man Melting by Craig Cliff (New Zealand). The overall winners of Best Book and Best First Book will be announced on 21 May at the Sydney Writers' Festival.

21 February 2011 - The Indie Book Award 2011 - Independent booksellers from across the country have nominated their favourite books from 2010 in four categories – Fiction, Debut Fiction, Non-Fiction and Children’s. Details of the shortlist can be found at the link above.
The category winners and the Indie Book of the Year will be announced on March 14th.
15 February 2011 - The Jonathan Zwartz Quintet Live at the Village - The next in the popular Live at the Village series of Concerts in Springwood will be on Thursday February 24 at the Presbyterian Hall, 160 Macquarie Rd, Springwood from 7:30 pm.
The Jonathan Zwartz Quintet will present another side of Jonathan's compositions, including some of the gentle lyrical pieces from his debut album, The Sea. The first set will be by The String Contingent playing original acoustic music which blends the traditions of Baroque with Celtic folk.
